关注!北京学子晋级下一轮“全球中学生学术奥林匹克竞赛”

在当前竞争激烈的留学申请大环境下,学生仅凭优秀的标化成绩还远远不够的。特别是想冲刺国外名校的学生,参加专业竞赛来提高自身的学术竞争力,已成为留学申请中非常必要的加分项之一。


世界学者杯


近日,有全球中学生学术奥林匹克竞赛之称的世界学者杯(the World Scholar\\\'s Cup)的北京区域轮赛顺利开幕。来自北京市新英才学校AP国际中心的学生李卓芸、常浩喆等同学,与全国各地优秀选手同场竞赛。他们围绕“重塑过去”等议题,在团队竞答、协同创作、团队辩论、知识挑战等环节充分展示自己不俗的实力,获得令人满意的成绩。

“冠军辩论赛”围绕“电影本土化”、“世界史优先”、“如何看待先进文明”等论题展开辩论,经过激烈的角逐,AP中心李卓芸同学获得全场第一名。









经过一天的比赛,AP中心代表队(team577)以全场第三名晋级下一轮。





从小到大,“WSC世界学者杯”的海报都张贴在过去学校的走廊中,可惜我那时却没有勇气和实力加入挑战。如今来到了新英才,在良好教学氛围中,我开始了改变,开始重视学习和标化考试,我的技能和其它方面都得到了不小的提升。所以这一次我不想放过竞赛的机会,不仅是为弥补我小时候的遗憾,也是为了挑战一下自己的潜力。感谢World Scholar’s Cup璀璨的舞台提供给了我这样一次难得的机会,让我的努力和付出都变成了脖子上挂满的沉甸甸的奖牌和手中分量不轻的奖杯,我将继续努力,向更高的目标迈进。

在这次辩论比赛中,我们团队成功地获得了胜利。我感到非常激动和自豪,因为这是我们团队合作的结果。

在准备阶段,我们团队每个人都付出了很多努力。我们共同研究话题,搜集资料,制定策略,并且在练习中不断改进。在比赛中,我们互相支持,互相配合,充分发挥了自己 的优势,最终取得了胜利。

然而,我也深刻地意识到了一个道理:不要得意忘形。在我们庆祝胜利的时候,我却因为太兴奋而把自己的手机摔碎了。这让我想起了一个名言:“成功的时候,不要忘记谨慎行事。”

这次比赛让我更加深刻地认识到了团队合作的重要性。只有团队中的每个人都发挥出自己的优势,才能达到最好的效果。同时,我们也要时刻保持谨慎和冷静,不要因为一时的兴奋而犯下错误。

我相信,这次辩论比赛的胜利将激励我们团队更加努力地工作,迎接更大的挑战。我们会继续保持团队合作的精神,不断进步,不断提高自己的能力。同时,我们也会时刻铭记这次 比赛的经验教训,不断提醒自己保持冷静和谨慎,以免得意忘形。

This year, students took part in an extracurricular course that is structured around the World Scholar\\\'s Cup (WSC) competition, whose aim is to help them become more well-rounded in general knowledge, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. Activities we tackled as a class primarily included pronunciation and annunciation, public speaking, communication, and debate. Students will definitely carry these skills throughout their life. The crucial element to their success, however, was creativity. Students had to determine how to creatively work their way through problems that they would encounter at the competition. For example, what to do if they were to be required to work together with a team of strangers, or if they had only 15 minutes to brainstorm and organize arguments for debate whose side they disagreed with on a personal level. Anyone can memorize information, but to be able to discern which pieces have value and how to weave those disparate parts together into a net that can be utilized effectively to capture the point and the audience are completely different skills. These skills require diligence, guidance, and perseverance which are core values in our class.

What is most important to me, as a teacher, is that every student can take something valuable away from every class that can actually be applied to their lives, no matter how small. The process of learning, failing, and growing is of far greater benefit to the student than the actual WSC competition (and its results.) While the competition and results were secondary, I was pleasantly surprised by my 11th grade AP student Lisa (李卓芸) with how dedicated and passionate she is in class and competition. Her spirit formed the backbone of their team, which included 10th grade A-level Frank (杨叔翰) and 10th grade BC Cardy (常浩喆), who found opponents on their own around school to debate with right up until the day of the competition.

In the end, what gave me the most joy was seeing such bright, hard-working, and eager students achieve recognition through their own creativity, sweat-equity, and preparation. The most important recognition to me, self-evident in this event, is their own acknowledgement of their own stellar achievements. This is of course only a first stone on the path to the future; this victory secured their spot in the Global WSC competition. The next challenge awaits!
